RK Project R.I.P.
Peoples National Bank (Clayton Mo)
We have been in business long enough to see at least one of our projects disappear! In 2007 we handled a top-to-bottom makeover of a former law office into a full service bank. We worked on a design/build basis with heavy involvement in design decisions, continuing the “old time bank” look we had just put in place in our first PNB project, built across from the Old Post Office in the Paul Brown building (downtown St. Louis). The most challenging part of the process was upgrading the building’s seismic properties while keeping the desired look, as it had been built in 1987 just before seismic design requirements were put in place. Reinforcing the masonry walls with steel while expanding the large glass openings was accomplished and the handsome design intent exemplified in the architect’s sketch was achieved (our photos of the renovated bank were lost in an iCloud accident).
However our client had purchased a very good piece of real estate on Forsyth Boulevard and it was sold to Centene Corporation several years later, which then tore it down and replaced it as part of a much larger office building which stands there today. It was fun while it lasted.
