In early August 2016 K2 Commercial Group awarded RK the contract to substantially overhaul the mostly empty shopping center which the previous owner sold to them in woeful condition. It was a complex and very fast track project with a new ALDI grocery store coming in as the new anchor tenant October 15th; the few existing tenants had to be kept operational as we removed and re-built the entire façade and also remodeled the entire parking lot including asphalt, sidewalks, curbs, lights, landscaping, irrigation, and a Historic Route 66 overlook deck required by the City of Shrewsbury as part of K2’s redevelopment agreement; a new roof was also part of the scope.
A variety of work had to be done in the existing tenant spaces along with the vacant ones; close coordination and sensitivity to their needs was paramount throughout the project. ALDI opened while we were tearing off and replacing most of the old façade and parking lot so we employed pedestrian protective measures and maintained temporary lighting units until the new LED lights poles were delivered and installed (they were a long lead item). Work was substantially complete at the beginning of January 2017.
